Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov were my favorite pairs skaters. I watched them win both Olympics, I watched their Porgy & Bess routine on Artistry on Ice, and saw her in People magazines 50 most beautiful. I now have her book, My Sergei, and the video.
Her book is great, it's compelling and easy to read. She and I are the same age, to the very month, and so we were kind of going through the same phases at the same time in life.
My favorite of all their performances was The Man I Love, it is in fact my favorite figure skating routine of any skater in any era. My second runner up would be Crazy for you, because it is so upbeat and they looked like they were having so much fun performing it.
They both looked really great in their red costumes, which is why I've included pictures of Out of Tears and the Flamenco short program from the winter Olympics of 94. Thanks to Belinda for sending me a tape of their Out of Tears program.
I have G&G to thank for my interest in classical music. It was their performances that introduced me to many of my favorites, including Moonlight Sonata by Behtoven, Gershwin, & Rachmaninoff.
